  You might know that synesthesia is what we call it when senses collide--for example, when people can smell the colors they see or see the music they hear. Now, perfumer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz takes us inside her brain to let us experience what she smells when she sees a particular shade of yellow. Hansa Yellow is the name for a family of organic compounds used in making pigments, and it's also the name of this wonderfully sunny, honeyed, fruity-floral gourmand. Hansa Yellow was first developed for a tour of the “Matisse and Friends” exhibit at the Denver Art Museum so patrons could “smell" the paintings, but it's a work of art in its own right. Sunshine in a bottle. Notes include lemon essence, green banana peel, Tunisian neroli, grandiflorum jasmine, ylang ylang, orange blossom, butter, Tahitian vanilla, and Australian sandalwood.
